Our Mission
San Diego Canyonlands' mission is to promote, protect and restore the natural habitats in San Diego County's canyons and creeks. We do this by fostering education and ongoing community involvement in stewardship and advocacy, and by collaborating with other organizations.
equity statement
San Diego Canyonlands strives to promote diversity and solidarity in our community. We acknowledge that social justice and environmental justice are inextricably linked. Diversity is what makes San Diego's canyons so unique and vital, not only in the ecology but also in the communities that surround and have access to them. There is a deficit between those who have access to these open spaces and those who feel safe recreating in and enjoying them. Many factors contribute to this inequity, including systemic racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia. San Diego Canyonlands believes in the healing power of nature and will continue to work to make our canyons welcoming and safe places for all San Diegans to enjoy. But there is still a lot of work to be done. And we know that we need to keep listening and learning how to serve all parts of our community. We commit to putting in the work to improve our organization and the open spaces we work in to be equitable and inclusive, and welcome input and participation from all members of our community.
