the Chavistas

Cesear chavez service clubs…

are regional clubs throughout San Diego that build young leaders through the mission of inspiring young people to believe in themselves and to know that they can make a difference. For the Monroe Clark Chavistas this means volunteering with San Diego Canyonlands every Saturday during the school year to take care of the City Heights canyons. At these events Chavistas help to pick up trash, remove weeds, and plant native plants in the canyons. This helps to keep the community clean and the canyons accessible.

For over a decade, we have partnered with the Cesar Chavez Club at Monroe Clark Middle School to bring City Heights students into local canyons to volunteer. These Chavistas attend our canyon volunteer events every Saturday morning during the school year, learning how to remove invasive plants, plant native plants, and in the process learn how what they are doing supports these special, natural places.
