In September, with Chollas Creek Friends group leader Javier Hernandez, SDCL initiated an important collaboration to remove hazardous waste during the annual coastal cleanup events.  Javier is an employee with Sturgeons and Sons, an environmental remediation company. In partnership with ILACSD and with Javier’s volunteer leadership, Sturgeons and Sons provided prompt removal and proper disposal of hazardous waste collected at twenty different Coastal Cleanup sites throughout the county. The Household Hazardous Waste removed included: 300 pounds of electronic waste, 40 tires, 27 batteries, 6 propane tanks, 2 gallons of charcoal lighter fluid, 30 gallons of used oil, and 6 containers of un-labeled toxics with varying materials including pesticide.
